Packing tips for national moves
If you are planning to relocate within the country, you can save on moving costs by packing everything yourself. Below we have put together a number of handy tips. Don’t forget to always have your packed items checked by your Easy Moving mover in order to avoid damage.Coding
It is advisable to pack boxes by room and label them with the contents and number of the room in your new home. This means that you first need to number each of the rooms in your new home. If desired, you can also make a list with a detailed content description for every box. Obviously this is more time-consuming when packing, but will allow you to find what you need more quickly after the move.Electronics
If possible, use the original boxes for electronic equipment. Remember it is always better to overprotect than to underprotect such items as computers and CD players. Fill the boxes with newspaper, packing paper or blankets. Do not place sharp objects together with fragile items. You can also unhook and connect the washing machine yourself, but remember to first drain the hoses and secure the drum with the transport lock to prevent damage. Tape the door of the (defrosted) refrigerator shut and make sure it remains upright during the move. Turn up the freezer to the highest setting the night before the move and insulate it with blankets during the move.Breakables
Dishes should be packed with extreme care. We have special packing paper for packing dishes in boxes properly. Roll up silverware in tissue paper. Breakables should be individually wrapped. This can be done using linen, for example. Use stickers to label the boxes as fragile (such as FRAGILE – GLASS). Heavier items (such as plates) should be placed at the bottom of the box. Place extremely fragile glassware (such as wineglasses) and bottles upright in the box. Keep flammable and hazardous materials separate.Heavy items
It is not advisable to pack numerous heavy small items (such as books) in the same moving box. Place a number of books at the bottom of the box and then fill up the rest of the box with lighter items. Books should be packed flat to prevent damage to the spine. Do not make the boxes too heavy and use smaller boxes for heavier items. This makes it easier during the move and reduces the risk of damage.Clothing and rugs
Clothing can be hung in special wardrobe boxes, which we provide. This prevents them from wrinkling. Do not fold rugs, but roll them up to prevent creasing.Curtains and lamps
Curtains should be removed from the rails and placed in boxes. Remove light bulbs and place lampshades upright in boxes. Make sure to pack these items carefully.Clocks and paintings
Secure the pendulum of clocks. Let us pack large (grandfather) clocks, as well as mirrors and paintings. This ensures the best possible protection during the move.Plants
Depending on the distance and number of days of the move, it may be possible to take along plants. Place small plants together in boxes and let us take care of the larger plants.Valuables
Do not leave keys in cabinets and desks so as not to lose them. Make sure to keep all keys, money and cheques in your hand baggage. Naturally the same applies to expensive jewellery and important paperwork. Tools should also be kept separate to make sure you can get to work quickly in your new home after the move.Relocation advice service
